VETAL / Company Profile

Built from a single order,

VETAL was established because of a small import-substitution order for a photocell unit for carding. Today it is a technology-driven electronics group serving textile and food-processing industries worldwide.

Who we are

Matching imported technology — without the import.

The challenge in 1983 was to match imported products in technology and reliability while remaining economical — without heavy foreign-exchange expense. VETAL met it, and has since grown into a group solving detection and sorting problems for cotton spinning and food processing, with installations across India, Southeast Asia and the former Soviet republics.

Our mission

Continuous innovation to keep up with the demands of the textile-electronics and food-grain industries in inspection and sorting — at both the raw-material and finished-product ends — to satisfy the needs of the immediate consumer.

Our vision

To develop and bring technological products and solutions of our own, and collaborate with worldwide industry leaders on local application — improving end-product quality and value to achieve profit and sustainability.

The travel so far

Four decades of indigenous engineering.

1983

Founded

Established by R. Venkatesan, a technocrat from IIT Kanpur, on the back of a small import-substitution order for a photocell unit for carding.

1983 – 1991

Indigenised infrared technology

Developed advanced products for cotton-to-yarn preparation, including broken-sliver detection and hopper-level sensing stop-motion units.

1992 – 1999

Spark and metal detection

Spark detector for pneumatically conveyed cotton, fire-trap protection, and electronic metal detection to minimise machine damage from impurities.

2001 – 2005

Diversification into general industry

Launched token display systems, security recorders and smoke detectors for broader industrial and commercial use.

2006 – 2012

Scale: VETAL SCAN and RICE SORTER

The flagship VETAL SCAN was implemented in 1200+ customer locations; the RICE SORTER was deployed at 1000+ sites for black-impurity removal.

2012 – 2020

RGB cameras and ultrasonic sensing

High-tech VETAL Scan and Rice Sorter with RGB cameras and ultrasonic technology improved process quality and replaced earlier-generation machines.

Our people

A team where 70% have stayed 20+ years.
